Be Still

This world is busy. You are busy. Time is fleeting and the world is passing by. Friends, family, work, social media, and other obligations are all calling your name. They want you and they want as much of you as possible. Where does the time go? We stay so busy that hours are like minutes and weeks are like days. In a busy world, full of busy people, it is common for God to be left out. We reach the end of the day and say, “Tomorrow God, I will give you time tomorrow.” Only to find ourselves in the same situation the next day. At the end of the week we say, “I’m sorry God. I’ll do better next week.” Another lie. At the end of the year we examine our lives and say, “I can do better. I promise God. New year, new me.” But is it?

The gods of this world are still here. There are distractions around every corner waiting for you to fall into their snares. How can we make time for God and what do we do with that time? A good place to start is found in Psalm 46:10. It says: “Be still and know that I Am God.” Come to God and just dwell in Him. Take comfort in knowing this: God is God. God is in control. God is good. God is love. God is perfect. God is God. Rejoice in this and solemnly dwell in His presence.

Stop bringing empty promises to God and just silently marvel in His greatness. Take time away from this loud and busy world and be still. Bow down at the feet of Jesus and let your awe be felt. God is God. A simple statement, full of out of this world truth and power. Too often we come to God full of regret and requests. We think the more we talk the better, but that is not always true. Take time today and just silently sit with God. Don’t come to Him with only regrets and requests, come with reverence and just be still. Listen to what He has to say and take heed of His words. Dwell in Him and worship Him through your awestruck wonder of His presence. Be still, child of God.
